What is a Scholar?
You specialize in mastering spells and being apply to apply magic to solve your problems.
There are two flavors of Scholars, Earth (healing) and Celestial (damage), and you must pick one as your primary approach to doing magic.
You have a limit pool of magic each day, which renews during the resets at 6. So you need to be careful with spending spells except during the last few minutes before your magic will reset. On the other hand spells you do not cast are wasted possibilities. So playing a Scholar means you are intending to play a resource management game, keeping track of intangible things. It may also mean you learn to craft Celestial Scrolls or Earth Potions to augment your daily intrinic magics.
Spell Pyramids
Because higher level spells are generally more useful than lower level ones it is a good idea, all other things being equal, to build up yoru spell pyramid, growing it at the top, and taking supporting spells as needed to get the levels you need.
- You must have one more spell at level N than you have spells at level N+1, until you have four spells at level N.
- You must have at least as many spells of level N as you do at level N+1, once you have four spells at level N.

This means the top 4 levels of spells you know looks like a pyramid, 4 at level N, 3 at level N+1, 2 at level N+2, and 1 at level N+3. While you can continue the pattern out it is actually more useful to just have 4 spells per level all the way down until you reach 4 spells at level 9 and then either focus on levels of Formal magic or widen your column from the bottom by adding a fifth spell at level 1, then one at level 2 and so on up.
For a starting scholar if you do nothing else taking the basic Pyramid up to level 7 uses up your starting points. You may want to be a little broader than that. Other options include taking levels of Craft Scroll for Celestial and of Craft Potion if Earth to start building up stockpiles of expendable resources to supplement your spells or taking a basic combat skill such as Staff to give you some damage you can do at will.
The patterns for Earth Scholars are very similar just replacing Read Magic with Healing Arts and First Aid, Celestial with Earth, and Scrolls with Potions.
